For this project I had to create a pitch for a game in the form of a trailer (which also required "gameplay" footage). I settled on the idea of a fast-paced action RPG centred around the use of a heavy melee, a crossbow and dodging after drafting a concept for the main character.
From this I had found a direction of using a dark and sketchy art style lit using 2D normal maps. However, throughout the project this goal became far more difficult than I had anticipated, resulting in cut corners (such as little-to-no enemy concepts, limited animation in the trailer, barely any genuine gameplay etc), ultimately this also lead to me losing direction with the art style, drifting from the initial grim and dark style to a simple and rushed result.
If I were to tackle this project again, I would develop a fully playable prototype, and re-sprite from scratch whilst following the original sketch-themed idea. Furthermore I would produce an art bible to guide me.
